Synopsis:

A documentary produced by Luiss Business School in collaboration with Titanus to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the oldest and most influential production company in the history of Italian cinema.

Founded in 1904 in Naples during the early days of cinema by Gustavo Lombardo, originally under the name Lombardo Film, Titanus has traveled through time, becoming one of the pillars of both Italian and international cinema. In the 1930s, its headquarters moved from Naples to Rome, and with the advent of sound, a new era began for Titanus, which launched the career of Totò by producing the first film of the Neapolitan actor. The documentary narrates the extraordinary journey of the Lombardo family, who have always led Titanus with passion and innovation. Gustavo, married to the famous silent film actress Leda Gys, was succeeded by his son Goffredo, who in the 1950s and 1960s expanded the company’s horizons, producing true cinematic epics, and then by his grandson Guido, the current president, who continues to honor the family legacy with a forward-looking vision.

Narrated by actress Valentina Corti, the documentary features exclusive interviews with some of the most renowned figures who have collaborated with Titanus, including Dario Argento, Giuseppe Tornatore, Franco Nero, Nino D'Angelo, Enrico Vanzina, and Giovanna Ralli. It recounts the creation of some of the most iconic films produced by Titanus, such as The Leopard, Rocco and His Brothers, Bread, Love and Dreams, and Two Women, which earned Sophia Loren the Academy Award for Best Actress.

The story of Titanus stands as a testament to how an artistic vision can endure over time, adapting to changes and continuing to inspire generations of viewers and filmmakers.
